Devlog 7: sprint 2 week 2

Hey everyone, we are nearing the end of sprint 2 with one week remaining
most of the foundations of our game are now there and just need some polishing

Let's see what progress we made this week:

Adding more details to buildings

The latest feedback we got on our buildings was that we needed a touch more detail in them. So that’s what we did. We remodeled an old house to have more interesting shapes from every angle. This way we can easily duplicate and rotate to have more houses that don’t necessarily look like each other.

For the apartment building however, we stayed with a basic cubic shape and a few floors, but added a ladder on the side in case of emergencies (or a need to platform your way through the game).

Roads

These pieces will be the main building blocks for our roads and sidewalks.

The sidewalks (left 4 pieces) include a curb and come in two different shapes: a straight piece and a corner piece.

The road consists of just straight pieces since we plan on making 1 long straight road for the garbage truck to drive on.

At the end of the road, the truck uses the roundabout to return home to its trash yard and recycle everything that’s been collected.

These pieces are quite modular since they easily fit together by placing them next to each other or even intersecting if necessary.

Amount of trash collected

Since our dear raccoon friends have very tiny hands, there’s a limit to how much they can carry when going through the trash. That’s why they have to make pit stops at the garbage truck to deposit their bounty.

When collecting trash the players will now be made aware of how much they carry, in comparison to what they can carry. The more the bar fills up, the closer they are to their carry limit.

So be sure to deposit your trash in time!

Walking animation

The raccoon mesh finally has a walking animation now! So when you’re running across the map, you’ll see your character actually move along with you!

Next up: jumping animation

Character Outline

Characters now have an outline instead of being completely colored in their team’s color. This means that the actual raccoon texture is now visible in all its glory.

Town final layout

After feedback about our previous concepts, we settled on a straight line so the players can focus mostly on platforming and collecting trash. We made a final version of the map according to the feedback we got, the truck will move in a straight line and rotate and return at the end of the level.

flying camera's

based on the state of the game the camera position now changes to make sure the players have the best view of the situation they are in

that is all for this week,

Cya later fellow trash pandas.
